How Does This Work?

First-time clients are often unsure what to expect when hiring an editor or tutor. The editing and tutoring processes I follow are described below, and I encourage you to contact me with any questions.

Editing

Each job begins when a client sends the initial information about their document to me. Within 24 hours, I respond with any questions I may have and provide a cost and time estimate. In some cases, I may ask to see a sample of the document in order to provide the most accurate estimate possible. I will not accept a job unless I am sure I can work to your deadline!

If the client decides to move forward, I will ask him or her to send me the document (usually as a Microsoft Word file) to be edited. I use the Track Changes and Comments features of Word for all editing changes so that the client can see the edits made. During this period, I may be in communication with the client if more extensive edits are required. Once completed, I notify the client and send them an invoice. Payment is accepted through PayPal, Venmo, or in person with cash. Upon payment, I send the final edited document to the client. For longer documents, such as theses and dissertations, I typically ask that the client pay after each chapter is edited.

While I most commonly work with editing clients remotely by email, I am also open to discussing documents by phone, Skype, or in person (assuming the client lives locally) if preferred.

Tutoring

I tutor students in writing skills, as well as in qualitative research methods and the analysis software programs Atlas-ti and NVivo. If you are interested in tutoring services, please contact me so that we can discuss your specific needs in detail.

I typically ask that those looking to improve their writing skills send me one or more writing samples before we meet so that I am familiar with their writing ability and style. If there is one particular document you are struggling with, we can focus on that. Please note that I am not a writing service. I do not actually write term papers for students!

Tutoring generally works best when the client and I can sit down together in person to go over their writing samples, however, we can find ways to work around this if it is not possible. I want you to be comfortable with the process! For some, that may mean email, phone, or Skype communication is best.
